"Picture yourself in a boat on the river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes"

The vision for The MIMI NIKOHL Blog is inspired by the classic Beatles song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", which captures an aura of whimsical fantasy and nostalgia for childhood fun. As an artist, my aesthetic marries elegance and sophistication with bursts of  creative impulse and absurd artistic humor.

My blog is an entertainment guide for hosting fun, stylish, unforgettable events for everyone from the first time hostess to the mini Martha Stewart. I offer easy DIY decorating ideas, themes, hostess tips, delicious menu options, and much more. Whether it's a bridal shower, child's birthday, romantic dinner, or wedding, your guests will appreciate and remember the personal touches: the romantic floral arrangements, delectable dessert buffet, thoughtful gift bags, or wickedly fun games.

Planning an event can often be a stressful, expensive and emotionally exhausting endeavor, but I hope to alleviate this anxiety through planning tips and organizational tools. Most importantly, I hope to inspire you to enjoy the creative process of planning an event.
So let's party!!!

I want to host an elegant but budget friendly dinner party/house warming. What are some quick ways to achieve a inviting but stylish look on the cheap?

Hi Lovejones4u!
So glad you could join the party.

When dealing with a strict budget, I always focus on what's most impactful. Visually, lighting plays a major role in setting the mood. So dim or kill the over head lights and opt for some candles or warm white string lights. If this isn't an option you can also swap out those LED bulbs for something softer. Music also helps to set the mood. You don't need to hire "Scratch Master What's His Face". Just put together a playlist you're guest will enjoy and keep it at a decent volume so everyone isn't shouting.
For dinner, try setting up some type of buffet. Its interactive and variety gives the illusion of more food. Family style also works. Serve a large bowl of pasta that everyone can dig into. Also, if you put out some bread first, your guests won't be as hungry once it's dinner time. But my biggest tip for saving on dinner is SMALL PLATES, portion control is everything!
Lastly, you'll want to entertain. There are so many fun group games. Taboo (board game) is one of my all time favorites, and Heads Up (digital app) is a modern classic. You can also try "Would You Rather, Stranded On a Desert Island, or Truth or Dare" these will get your guests to open up; and you'll surely have funny stories to tell for years to come.

Hope this helps, Enjoy your party!!!

Thanks so much for these awesome tips Mimi! Especially the small plates, they will help manage my wallet and the waistline lol. I love the idea of candles and a good playlist, easy and cost friendly options. Time to plan!
